2023 Ford Edge
The Ford Edge is a good choice because of its various basic active safety aids and dazzling infotainment system. Upgrading to the SEL trim gives a few more amenities, such as power-adjustable front seats and access to a plethora of additional options. It is indeed the right car if you are after a multipurpose machine.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
In the 2022 model year, entry-level SE trims will be available with a Black Appearance package. It features black 19-inch wheels and a slew of black external embellishments. The optional Adventure package, available on the SEL trim, includes 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, faux-leather seats, and gray and black exterior details. Several new dealer-installed options, including a center console-mounted safe, have also been added to the spec sheet. The color pallet has been expanded with Flight Blue and Forged Green.
Engine (Power)
A turbocharged four-cylinder engine, complete with 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, comes standard on the Ford Edge. If you press the gas pedal hard, there's some turbo lag, but propulsion is good afterward. The rate is controlled by an eight-speed automatic transmission that seeks the right gear.
With its 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, the Ford Edge ST is a more exciting ride. This engine, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, is more suited to moving the SUV around, particularly when it's laden with passengers or cargo.
Performance
The EPA rates the Ford Edge at up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway, and even the sportier ST variant has a motorway rating of 25 miles per gallon. The Edge provides a smooth ride, and the interior is well-insulated from most outside noise and disturbance. ST versions seem livelier from behind the wheel, but they also have a stiffer suspension that makes road bumps more evident.
Interior
The cabin of the Edge is a comfortable spot for a ride or a road trip, with enough space for four adults. The materials used throughout the cabin are decent. The interior design is otherwise simple and discreet, with enough space for passengers and baggage. The two-row crossover section is a wonderful facilitator if putting stuff in the trunk is vital to you. The Edge's smart storage cubbies and somewhat larger interior may be the decisive factor. The cargo capacity behind the Ford Edge's rear seats is 39.2 cubic feet, which is about typical for a two-row midsize SUV. Its back-row folds down to open to approximately 73.4 cubic feet, albeit not flat. All Edge models come with Ford's latest Sync 4A software interface with a large 12.0-inch touch-screen display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard and can work through a wireless connection. Ford also offers a Wi-Fi hot spot on all Edge models, but in-dash navigation remains an optional feature.
Safety Features
Several useful driver-assistance systems are standard, including automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, and blind-spot surveillance, with more advanced functions available as extras depending on your trim level.
